THE web is full to the brim with great deals on DVDs to your door.
As the recession starts to bite cancelling those monthly direct debits might start to seem mighty attractive but this will usually be a false economy.
You'll save the money you would otherwise spend on cinema trips, buying DVDs or renting them from somewhere else: getting your movies online will always be cheaper.
Plus, if you're just trying to cut back, a fresh DVD on your doormat might just be the incentive you need to save by staying in.
So, what is the cheapest online DVD rental deal? Well, as usual with these things, there isn't a simple answer: it all depends on your viewing habits.
Limited
If you want the cheapest online DVD rental monthly rate go for Tesco's DVD Rental service. It's essentially red and blue re-branded version of online DVD rental giants Lovefilm and comes highly recommended by its users.
For just £3.88 you get 2 rentals per month, with one out at any one time. So you're paying a not-too-shabby £1.94 per movie.
You can get an only marginally dearer deal with Lovefilm's Light package and at The Sun Movie Club [Ed: closed] for just £1.95-and-a-half pence per rental.
Unlimited
If you don't want the restrictions of a limited online DVD rental deal and you want to get out a lot of DVDs your cheapest online DVD deal will be an unlimited one.
Of course, you'll get the best value for money the more DVDs you get out.
Again, Tesco DVD Rental is the winner here with its unlimited £8.78 a month package while LoveFilm (which ironically powers Tesco DVD rental) charges £9.78 for the same one DVD-at-a-time deal.
So, if you got out two DVDs a week - eight a month - you'd pay around £1.09 per film with Tesco Online DVD Rental and £1.252 with Lovefilm.
Pay as you Go
If you don't want to get films out that often and you want to order them as you need them then your cheapest online DVD rental deal will be pay as you go.
Try Lovefilm's PAYG option their best priced package is £29.22 and gives you 15 credits (15 movies' worth). That works out at £1.95 per movie.
Keep in mind that this is using the 'auto-top-up' system which will automatically bill your account every six months and top you up with your 15 credits.
EasyCinema DVD Rental - which is a rebranded version of Lovefilm - also uses a credit system. You can buy 10 credits (10 movies' worth) for £19.90. Credits must be used within 90 days or they'll be deleted.
