TRYING to choose a gift for the person who has everything is always a frustrating task.
With a DVD rental gift subscription, though, they can choose it themselves.
So that's hours of cinematic pleasure for them and zero hours of indecision for you.
This guide that will tell you all you need to know about DVD gift subscriptions for online DVD rental.
LoveFilm
Kicking off the DVD gift subscriptions is LoveFilm. They have a number of packages for you to choose from and prices start from the modest sum of £15.
You can send your lucky recipient a choice of e-card, featuring such Hollywood hotties as Johnny Depp, Angelina or, er, Helen Mirren. Your gift will be sent by e-mail, and you can specify a particular date for it to be received.
If you fancy a bit more of the personal touch, you can print off a personalised gift card with details of the subscription to pop inside a card.
Our favourite gift option, however, is LoveFilm's giftbox. If you spend £24 or more on a DVD gift subscription with LoveFilm, you get your order sent out to you (or the lucky recipient) in a snazzy box, and they'll even chuck in a free DVD or movie book for you.
With 16 different DVD gift subscription options, your lucky recipient will be sure to find exactly what they want. Ranging from a capped two-per-month for four months at £15, up to an unlimited subscription for a year at £133, and even including a games option, LoveFilm are a definite frontrunner in the DVD rental gift subscription battle.

Blockbuster
Blockbuster's take on the DVD gift subscription is to keep it simple.
There are four DVD rental deals available and you can pay for either 3, 6 or 12 months.
Deals start at just £17 for their Light Xtra package for 3 months: that's 2 online rentals and 1 in-store movie rental a month.
Bigger gifts for movie fiends are also well-represented: unlimited rentals with two discs at home at a time for a year is the largest, it'll set you back £172.
Blockbuster will deliver your gift in a movie-themed card to the door of your recipient.
Blockbuster DVD rental gift subscriptions can be a little hard to find: click the 'buy online' tab and scroll down to the bottom of the page.

Cinema Paradiso
Cinema Paradiso's DVD gift subscription comes in as the cheapest possible option.
Offers start from just £5.99, for a month's rental which is great if you're strapped for cash and need to get something for that person who has everything.
You can personalise the gift and then send it via email.
Their subscription options are plentiful (a whopping 36 different packages), although we're pleased to see that Cinema Paradiso have made things a little bit confusing with a vastly improved ordering page.
You can pay upfront for 1, 2, 3, 6, 4, 6 or 12 months but only the deals which last longer than 3 months will offer a discount on Cinema Paradiso's everyday DVD rental prices.
Anything else to know?
For all of these gift subscriptions, the recipient will need to be over 18, and have a registered credit or debit card, which they will need to give the details of when redeeming their gift subscription.
They all come with a small warning too. Once the allotted subscription time is up, they will convert the recipient to a normal monthly subscription using the card details they entered on redemption, unless it is cancelled and all discs returned before it begins.
Since the recipient will find this out when they redeem their voucher, though, there's no need to put a dampener on your gift by writing it in their card!
Ditch the chocolates this year and go for a DVD rental gift subscription instead. Our recommend choice: buy a Lovefilm gift here..
