To create a buzz around a film marketing departments are increasingly chucking out free tickets to their email subscribers.
The downside is that you don't get to choose what you watch and have to get in quick to reserve your place.
But the upside is that these are the only cinema tickets on our list to be completely and unequivocally free so we think it's still worth a whirl.

Empire film club
Movie mag Empire have teamed up with OutNow to provide a DVD rental service and, to sweeten the deal, they've chucked in a free cinema ticket every month for six months.
To get your hands on the free monthly Cineworld ticket, you'll have to fill out a form after signing up. Empire will then send you six online codes - one for each month.
Free tickets can only be booked online and only for showings on Mondays.

Lovefilm PAYG
When you buy 6 film or game rental credits with Lovefilm's PAYG service you'll get two free cinema tickets to a cinema of your choice.
The deal works out at £2.50 a rental, more than pay monthly, but you can spread rentals over three months to suit your schedule.
Note that PAYG has auto top-up enabled so, even with this 'no commitment' option, you'll need to make sure you cancel top ups to avoid extra costs.

Cheap cinema days
- Cineworld Saturday mornings: £1 kids films (adults have to be with a child to get cheap price)
- Cineworld Bargain Tuesday: Cheaper tickets (usually £2 off) when you go on a Tuesday
- Vue Cheap Tuesdays: register online for a Vue card to get a cheap day Tuesday card.
- Vue Kids AM: £1.25 tickets for children 2-12 and the adults with them on weekends and in school holidays.
- Picturehouses Cheap Mondays: Money every Monday except bank holiday, for example, £5.50 adult rather than £7/8.
Note that many of the deals above have exclusions, it's worth double checking cinemas' sites before you go.
Orange Wednesdays
The mighty film promo means Orange mobile customers (even those on PAYG) get half-price tickets by texting FILM to 241 from their Orange mobiles or using the Orange app.
Orange text over a code which you just show at the ticket desk on a Wednesday.

O2 Priority Moments
O2 mobile customers can get 50% off Odeon tickets Sunday to Thursday by going through their Priority Moments promo.
You have to be 16+ and have a web-enabled phone to use the offer: either download the priority moments app or text MOMENTS to 2020 to get a link.

40% off Odeon
Odeon fans can get 40% off tickets from now until the the 13th of October by entering the code Film40 when booking online or printing out a voucher.
There are some exclusions: it can't be used with Orange Wednesday, family tickets or ODEON Premiere Club tickets and special screenings (ODEON Senior Screen, ODEON Kid's, ODEON Plus) are also excluded.

Free streaming
Lovefilm
Don't forget that if you're a Lovefilm DVD rental customer there are thousands of films available to you to stream online.
Those on the cheapest £4.99 and £5.99 with games deals don't get any free streaming but...
- £5.99: 2 hours free streaming a month
- £8.16 (£10.20 with games): 4 hours free streaming
- £9.99+: unlimited streaming

Orange Thursdays
Orange have teamed up with iTunes to offer a free streamed movie every Thursday to their mobile phone and broadband customers.
Orange mobile phone and mobile broadband customers can text FILMTOGO to 85060 to receive a code which can be entered online.
Orange Home Broadband users need to register first by texting JOIN and their username to 85060. All texts cost 35p.
