Blockbuster get 'Attack The Block' Early

julia kukiewicz

BLOCKBUSTER have released hotly anticipated Joe Cornish-directed comedy Attack The Block to rent today.

Blockbuster online DVD rental customers will be able to nab the film a full ten days before it's available to rent from rivals.

Blockbuster have kept up a steady stream of exclusives this year, largely bringing popular action movies to rental far before their rivals.

Last week it was Jason Statham flick Blitz in line for the early rental treatment.

This week, as well as the explosion-heavy Attack The Block, emotion-heavy Chalet Girl is up for an early release.

The rom-com stars Ed Westwick of Gossip Girl fame and was described by a Film4 reviewer as, "possibly the first British rom com since Working Title's heyday that won't make you want to stick pins in your eyes" which sounds like a double thumbs up to us.

More Universal

The DVD rental service also seems to be taking more care to advertise the fact that it's now the only company to be renting titles from Universal Pictures UK.

We notice that some Lovefilm and Cinema Paradiso-beating titles now have their own little space on the DVD rental site's homepage.

Considering that Blockbuster must be paying through the nose to bring popular titles such as Kick Ass, Scott Pilgrim and Somewhere to their customers, we wonder what's taken them so long.

Attack The Block

Wherever you rent it, Attack The Block is well worth a watch.

The film follows the current genre-clash trend (Cowboys vs Aliens, soon-to-be-released Cockneys vs Zombies) to a tee, pitching estate kids against aliens.

The script has as many twists and turns as the camerawork and the whole thing has an easy sense of humour that makes it no surprise that the team from Shaun of the Dead were involved in its production.

Nick Frost, Jodie Whittaker and Luke Treadaway star alongside relative unknown John Boyega.
