Win a DVD Player and The Equalizer on DVD

OUR friends at Blockbuster DVD rental are giving away a DVD player, and a copy of The Equalizer to celebrate the release of the TV series’ first season on DVD.

The Equalizer tells the story of ruthless private investigator Robert McCall, in search of the truth on the mean streets of NYC.

To enter the competition, all you need to do is answer the multiple choice question ‘Edward Woodward was the lead in which classic movie?’

Here’s a clue. It starts with a ‘W’ and ends with an ‘ickerman’.

Get your skates on, as the competition closing date is 26th May.

LoveFilm Summer Preview

THIS month in their newsletter, online DVD rental giant LoveFilm talks us through the pick of this summer’s hot flicks.

In Hollywood, summer starts in May and filters out in July, and as soon as the first rays of the sun appear, many educated film viewers run for the shade. Summertime in the cinema is given over to hordes of teenagers, clambering to see the latest Marvel superhero packed CGI flick.

However, as LoveFilm’s Tom Charity notes, these movies tend to be ones anyone can enjoy.

This summer sees the release of Iron Man, Hannock, the latest Indiana Jones adventure and The Incredible Hulk.

The LoveFilm newsletter provides you with a brief summary of each film, and a ‘hit or miss’ rating.

If you’re planning a cinema trip anytime soon, the newsletter is well worth checking out!

Gamez Gecko; Game of the Week

GAMEZGECKO, specialists in games rental, this week named the ice hockey game NHL 2K7 their PS3 game of the week.

Whilst the Gamez Gecko staff may be raving about the game (rating it 5/5), customers of the online games rental site have only rated it 3/5.

We sent our resident games experts Joseph Taylor and Mark Goodwin to investigate if NHL 2K7 is a cool as the Gamez Gekko staff make out, or as frosty as it’s customer reviews.

“Player animation in NHL 2K7 is incredibly realistic, and the game play is exceptionally smooth. There’s a vast array of options and mode, and die-hard ice hockey fans will appreciate the high level of detail and statistics,” they reported.

“However whilst NHL 2K7 may seem like the best ice hockey game on the PS3 at the moment, the reason may be because that’s exactly what it is. If you want an ice hockey game and have a PS3, there’s no real choice. You just have to buy NHL 2K7

Blockbuster Review Recent Releases

BLOCKBUSTER DVD rental’s weekly newsletter ‘The Week’ has listed and reviewed five of the best recent DVD releases.

These include Lust, Caution, The Golden Compass, Sleuth, Waitress and Stargate SG-1.

Lust, Caution, voted by Blockbuster’s film buffs as their film of the week, is an erotic espionage thriller set in post-WW2 Shanghai. The film is based on the short story by Eileen Chang,

Directed by the same chap who oversaw Brokeback Mountain, Caution, Lust is bound to be a hit on DVD!

Blockbuster’s ‘The Week’ has plenty of film suggestions to help you out if you’re stuck. Although The Golden Compass did not perform fantastically at the cinema, Mal Simons (from the Blockbuster online team) thinks its well worth checking out on DVD, in the comfort of your own home!
