FEW things go as well together as a pizza and a DVD – especially when the summer has turned out to be little more than a soggy glimpse of blue skies now and again – which is why Stelios’ big, orange EasyCinema DVD rental is giving away a free pizza for everyone who signs up to the service.
Also, who is offering a 2 month DVD rental free trial, and where can you rent Blu Ray movies?
Last day for free pizza with EasyCinema DVD Rental
IF you want to enjoy a free pizza with your DVD rentals, you’ll need to sign up to Stelios’s EasyCinema DVD rental in the next 24 hours, as the offer ends tomorrow.
Simply sign up for the Lovefilm-powered service using the code “easypizza4” when you register, and EasyCinema DVD Rental will contact you about how to receive your free pizza.
Sadly, EasyCinema does not offer a free trial so you’ll have to commit to the service to take advantage of the offer.
If you’ve missed out and still fancy a takeaway with your rental DVD this weekend, you should take a look at the online takeaway ordering service from our pals FancyABiteToEat.co.uk.
You can view the full menus of scores of takeaways in your area, then place the order and pay online without having to reach for the phone or clamber around looking for that menu for the Oriental Palace that the dog chewed up!
Suspect piracy survey points finger at UK DVD rental sites
A survey out this week has revealed that 36% of Britons have copied a pre-recorded DVD in the past 6 months, prompting analysts to suggest that online UK DVD rental sites like Lovefilm and Blockbuster DVD Rental are providing pirates with an unlimited source of readily available movies to copy.
Interestingly, the survey showed a significant increase in the copying of TV shows from TV Box-sets compared with last year.
Less surprising was the gender and age bracket of the main perpetrators: 18-24 year old males.
Considering the time, hassle and relative difficulty of making copies of DVDs, we’re surprised and perhaps a little sceptical that one in three of us has managed to copy anything at all in our lives.
The Sun Movie Club gathers momentum with 2 month free trial
WHO’D have guessed that it would take a tabloid newspaper to offer one of the longest DVD rental free trials we have ever seen?
Last week we reported how The Sun newspaper had launched a UK DVD Rental website on the back of the MyMovieStream (now OutNow.co.uk) service, called The Sun Movie Club.
Initially offering a much shorter trial, we can now report that The Sun has gone bonkers and is offering its users a full 2 months’ free trial if you sign up here and use the code “SUN2MP”.
Only Lovefilm has offered a longer free trial – 3 months – but this was always limited to a voucher-only scheme.
This is the first 2 month DVD rental free trial we’ve seen which is freely accessible to anyone. One thing’s for sure, it won’t last long, so if you haven’t tried the MyMovieStream service before, you’ll be eligible for the offer.
Sign up for the Sun Movie Club 60 day free trial now (code: SUN2MP)
Who offers Blu Ray rental?
IT doesn’t seem all that long ago when forums and pub discussions were all about which high-definition format would win?
Despite HD-DVD’s best efforts, it seems like the humble PlayStation 3 – with its built-in Blu Ray player – was enough to tip the scales towards Blu Ray being the VHS to HD-DVD’s Betamax.
DVD rental services have been somewhat slow to pick up on the demand for Blu Ray movies, but Lovefilm, Blockbuster, and OutNow.co.uk all now offer a selection of Blu Ray titles.
Paradoxically, only one dedicated games rental site – the excellent WhyBuyGames – offers Blu Ray movies in addition to its selection of games.
We can’t see any reason why any games rental site offering PS3 titles would not stock Blu Ray movies too. After all, the PS3’s rubbish game selection hardly make it worthwhile signing up to an unlimited games rental service for games alone!
Anna König will be back next week.
