THEY'VE been accused of muscling many small DVD rental services out of business, but now rental giant Lovefilm could be about to do the same for the games rental market with a concerted drive to push the gaming end of their product.
While LoveFilm.com has offered games rentals since 2005, new marketing manager, Jason Norris, exclusively revealed to ChooseDVDRental that they are starting to push the games rental section of their site in a big way.
Eager
Mr Norris said Lovefilm is now eager to highlight what their service can do for gaming, and will start with a 21 day free trial. Logos, images and branding have all been updated to highlight that LoveFilm offer Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3 titles for rent.
But what repercussions will this have for the dedicated games rental sites who, until recently, have not had to worry about competition from the big players?
Nick Palczynski, Managing Director and founder of Boomerang.com Games Rental doesn’t see LoveFilm’s service as a particular threat – “If LoveFilm is going to up the marketing of its games rental service, I think this will work in Boomerang's favour. The reason for this is that LoveFilm will help to grow the market as a whole and that can only be good for us.”
Priority membership
Mr Palczynsjki also points out that Boomerang is currently the only company to offer customers a priority membership package, enabling them to play more releases and receive more of their top choices.
LoveFilm may be bigger and better known than smaller gaming sites, but like all larger companies, they tend to have a reputation for poor customer service. Nick Palczynski is keen to highlight just how much Boomerang values its customers:
"Everyone at Boomerang puts the customer first, and I welcome feedback and comments. I believe that by listening to our customers we will offer the best service possible. The type of service customers want when renting games is slightly different from DVD and so I think that a few of the smaller companies, like Boomerang will continue to offer a better service.”
