THE back catalogue of legendary studio MGM will now be available for Lovefilm users online as part of the DVD rental site's ever-expanding Lovefilm Player service.
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, as it's less well-known, will bring 4,100 new titles straight to the computer screens of DVD rental users.
These will include classics from MGM's golden age such as Gone With The Wind as well as more modern must-watches like The Graduate and Thelma and Louise.
The deal is a huge boost for the fledgling Lovefilm streaming service.
At the end of last month, the company announced a deal with digital rights company Widevine that will enable them to stream content on a wider range of devices.
Deals with Sony and Samsung have already bought a Lovefilm app onto newer internet-enabled TVs.
The partnership could also be a shot in the arm for MGM, though it'll take a lot more to save the troubled studio which has been lurching ever closer towards bankruptcy since late last year.
"With the digital revolution underway, our opportunity for growth is huge," said Lovefilm CEO Simon Calver,"...the addition of MGM titles is a substantial development in enhancing our digital catalogue."
Streaming to spare
Lovefilm recently tweaked their DVD rental deals slightly to make more of their online content free to their users.
The second-cheapest £5.99 a month deal (3 DVDs, 1 at a time) now includes access to two hours of online streaming per month while the £7.99 a month deal (4 DVDs, 2 at a time) includes four hours of streaming per month.
£9.99 a month DVD and games deal (4 discs, 2 at a time) customers can also use the player for four hours a month.
Those on unlimited DVD and game rental deals can use the player as much as they like.
Sign up to Lovefilm this week through ChooseDVDrental and you'll be entitled to a 30-day free trial (two weeks direct from the site) as well as £10 Boots voucher.
