Lovefilm lures back ex-customers with new PAYG rental service
Cottoning on to the fact that the average human can only watch a finite number of films before getting bored, Lovefilm has created a sensible and well-priced Pay As You Go model for DVD rental.

Is Lovefilm any good?
You'd be forgiven for thinking there was only one DVD rental company in the whole world, but is Lovefilm any good? We find out.

IN an effort to push it's DVD rental Pay As You Go package, LoveFilm is offering its customers the chance to win a limited edition 40” Toshiba LCD TV.

To be in a with a chance of winning this fantastic prize, all you need to do is sign up to LoveFilm's Pay As You Go DVD rental package.

What is LoveFilm Pay As You Go?

Lovefilm Pay As You Go is a prepaid plan, which gives you a DVD rental service with less commitment.

There are no contracts or monthly bills; and movies cost from just £1.75. Customers purchase blocks of ‘credits’, which they use to rent films whenever they feel like it.

The Pay As You Go package is different from LoveFilm’s usual subscription model, in which a constant stream of DVDs are sent by post, watched, and then returned in order for more to be sent.

Currently two Pay As You Go packages are offered by LoveFilm; Auto Top Up and Non Auto Top Up.

Auto Top Up allows you to credit your account with a certain number of DVD rentals (for a flat fee). After six months you will be re-billed, and your credits will be restored.

Single DVD rentals come in at just under £2, making it excellent value for money.

The Non Auto Top Up package expires after 6 months (even if you have not used up all your credits) and you will not be re-billed.

Film prices start at around £2.40 per rental.

Who Does the Package Suit Best?

The Pay As You Go package is excellent for customers who are not, or feel they would not use a monthly subscription package enough.

It’s a far less stressful way of renting DVDs, as customers will no longer feel they have to watch their monthly quota of films simply to get their moneys worth from their subscription.

Jason Norris, Marketing Manager of Love Film explains that the Pay As You Go package has been developed to lure back customers who tried, but didn’t stick with, the unlimited rental model.

"We are offering this to previous customers and we have decided to also see if there is a demand for the service from people that have never tried LoveFilm,” says Norris.

“It’s more of a response to what we have been asked for, but we think it is also a better option than paying high street prices."

Whilst the package may be fantastic for customers who only watch the odd film now and again, it is not for spur of the moment film views. This is because you will need to rent your film a day or two before you plan on watching it.

Does Anyone Else Offer a Similar Service?

LOVEFILM is not the only online rental company to offer a pay as you go rental service. Stelios (over at Easy Cinema) allows his customers to rent DVDs on demand.

Although Easy Cinema is a LoveFilm affiliate, they are the only site powered by LoveFilm to do this.

Why Choose LoveFilm?

IF the idea of pay per rent DVDs appeals to you, LoveFilm offers a package well worth considering.

Not only could you be in with a chance of winning a brilliant 40” Toshiba TV, LoveFilm also boast the widest range of films in the UK (65,000), the lowest price (from £1.76 per film), the most flexibility (watch what you want, when you want), as well as the usual free postage and non-existent late fees!
