Breaking Away
Out to rent on DVD today

It won an Oscar when it came out in 1979 but this feel-good cycling movie's taken a little while to get a DVD release.

Dennis Christopher - who would go on to appear in another iconic sporting movie, Chariots of Fire - stars as Dave an Italian cycling obsessed American teen with a dream.

There are a couple of funny moments as Dave uses his Italian nous to pose as an exchange student but, when it comes down to it, this is sports film and team spirit rules all.

A very young looking Denis Quaid also makes an appearance as part of the cycling team.

If the football, tennis and racing have whetted your appetite for even more sport then this is definitely worth a whirl.

The Crazies
Out to rent on DVD and blu ray on July 2nd exclusively at Blockbuster and from July 19th elsewhere

When the inhabitants of a small US town start coming down with cases 'having wide eyes and going a bit murderous' you know something horrible's going to happen and it does in this film on quite a grand scale.

The hunky sheriff and his semi-dopey partner end up fighting not only their neighbours but the understandably concerned military.

The Crazies is based (loosely) on the Romero film of the same name but the translation's made the film both slicker - they might have made everything a little grey but there's no denying that everyone's better looking - and sillier.

Still, there are plenty of jumpy moments, plenty more action-filled ones and a distinct lack of truly unwatchable gore.

In all, accept that their are cliches - move on and enjoy the ride.

My Name is Khan
Out to rent on DVD and blu ray today

A Bollywood film set firmly in post-9/11 America and ending hopefully with the election of Obama, My Name is Khan is a politically-edged love story that just teeters on the edge of over-sentimentality.

Rizvan - who has Asperger's Syndrome - is forced to go to America to stay with his brother where he meets his wife.

Shahrukh Khan - the actor playing Rizwan Khan - has a huge number of films to his name and clearly hopes this will be his breakthrough international hit. Kajol, as always, is completely radiant.
