THIS week sees exciting new mobile updates for SwapGame customers, a tribute to John Hughes and which young actresses have been voted as the UK's favourite.
SwapGame goes mobile
GAME rental giant SwapGame has rolled out a new mobile service which allows customers to update their rental queue on the move.
The new mobile site, which will work on all major mobile browsers, will let users browse the games selection as well as creating and editing their rental queues.
For fans of Apple, a new web-based app has also been introduced for iPhone and iPod touch users with a user-friendly interface for managing SwapGame accounts.
Users of the new service will have access to SwapGame's library of over 6000 games and can access - and even submit - on-site reviews.
While we're all for technological advancement, giving iPhone users yet another reason to twiddle constantly with their phones on the bus is not the greatest idea in the world.
Time for a John Hughes marathon...
SAD news for 1980s teen dreams this week with the death of director John Hughes.
Although Hughes only directed eight films they all went on to become 80s classics and he continued his career writing scripts.
He most famously gave life to 'The Brat Pack', and paved the way for the coming-of-age teenage angst flicks that are still popular two decades on.
We've decided to pay tribute to the legendary director by picking three of his finest flicks to add to your rental queue.
- The Breakfast Club - Hughes' famous second flick about five wildly different high school students thrown together in detention. In true Hughes style, it's not long before the angst pours out. There's even some Simple Minds to sing along to.
- Ferris Bueller's Day Off - Another of the 80s cult classics sees Ferris Bueller skipping school to steal a Ferrari and go to Chicago whilst on the run from headteacher Mr Rooney. If you haven't seen this film, you haven't lived.
- Uncle Buck - This favourite sees the late John Candy as Uncle Buck, a somewhat incompetent family member who finds himself drafted in for a spot of babysitting.
If you're still hankering for more Hughes, don't forget about Sixteen Candles, Weird Science and Planes, Trains and Automobiles. Legwarmers and lycra are optional.
Lovefilm love Anne Hathaway
ANNE Hathaway has topped a Lovefilm poll of the nation's favourite young actresses.
The survey saw the The Devil Wears Prada star Hathaway stealing the top slot from our very own Keira Knightley, who was forced into second place.
All is not lost for our British beauties, though, as Emily Blunt, most noted for her lead role in Young Victoria, managed a respectable fourth place and Sienna Miller wasn't far behind in tenth place.
Also featured in the top ten were Heath Ledger's ex, Michelle Williams (3rd), Natalie Portman (5th) and Scarlett Johansson (8th).
Lagging behind in the poll was lads' favourite, Megan Fox (13th) and didn't-she-used-to-be-a-child-actress Dakota Fanning (19th).
Helen Cowley, editor of LoveFilm.com, said: "Our Keira definitely needs to pull her cinematic socks up if she wants to regain the top spot in 2010.".
