Blockbuster closes the gap between online and in-store DVD rental (6. 3. 2009)
Blockbuster has launched their new package this week, which offers game and DVD rental in their high-street stores as well as online. Helen Storey looks at the ins and outs of the new service, and highlights what you get, how much it costs, and why Blockbuster is a good choice for your online DVD rental.

Is Lovefilm Any Good?
Lovefilm is leading the way when it comes to the world of online DVD rental. But is Lovefilm any good? Anna König compares them to their main competitors CinemaParadiso, Blockbuster and MyMovieStream. The results are surprising!

Online DVD Rental News Roundup (08 MAY 09)
Helen Storey looks back at the week's games rental and DVD rental news, featuring the newest Hollywood trend to make people buy more DVDs, a list of exclusive films you can only rent at Blockbuster, the nominations for the MTV movie awards, and the best Tom Hanks films to add to your rental queue.

Online DVD Rental News Roundup (01 MAY 09)
Helen Storey's weekly roundup of DVD rental news (and games rental news!), featuring (mostly) punless news on swine flu, and how it might affect the DVD rental market, the latest news on RealNetwork's court case, and brings you three of the best BAFTA television winners that you can rent on DVD.

THIS week we're boldly going where no weekly DVD rental round-up column has gone before. We begin by checking out the film quotes that everyone seems to get wrong, and review some bizarre reviews of Star Trek and Angels and Demons. All this, and details of Blockbuster's super-long free trial.

LoveFilm reveals biggest movie misquotes

If you've ever felt the need to boom the fabled words, "Luke, I am your father" into an empty pint glass, followed by some heavy breathing worthy of a phone stalker, then think again.

In a survey that will have pedants rejoicing, LoveFilm announced the top misquoted movie lines, with Darth Vader's (non)utterance topping the poll.

Light-sabre lovers will of course know that the real quote was actually: "No, I am your father."

Coming in second place was a quote from Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarves: "Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of them all?" apparently spoken by the evil Queen. The actual line begins "Magic mirror…"

Other often misquoted lines included Star Trek's "Beam me up, Scotty" (Actual: "Scotty, beam us up"), Silence of the Lambs' "Hello, Clarice" (Actual: "Good evening, Clarice"), and tough guy Dirty Harry's "Do you feel lucky, punk." (Actual: "Do I feel lucky? Well do ya, punk?")

Klingons review new Star Trek release

From Star Wars to Star Trek, LoveFilm certainly have an intergalactic theme going on. There may not be Klingons off the starboard bow, but there are certainly some on YouTube.

This week, they released a video review of the new Star Trek film, entirely in Klingon. The review features two "professional Klingons", complete with correct uniform and Cornish pasty-esque foreheads.

The movie, which has been given confusingly mixed views in its opening week, was praised by Klingon generals Karloth and Sol’rac for its great special effects.

Darren Bignell from LoveFilm said: "The Klingons are Star Trek icons, so we figured getting their take on the new movie would be enlightening, even if - in their native dialect - it sounded a bit phlegmy."

Luckily, for those of us not fluent in the phlegmy Klingon language, English subtitles are provided.

Vatican reviews Da Vinci Code sequel with ever-so-slight disdain

Another of the week's reviews saw the Vatican speak out about Demons and Angels. The Vatican slammed The Da Vinci Code following its release, slating it as a deliberate attempt to discredit the Roman Catholic church.

This time round, it's difficult to tell. L'Osservatore Romano, one of the Vatican's dailies, describes the film as "harmless", "innocuous" and: "[of a] modest quality that was saved only by the presence of Tom Hanks."

The film, which is released this week, sees Robert Langdon (Hanks) trying to stop secret society, the Illuminati, from destroying the Vatican.

Blockbuster offers 1 month free trial

The month's free trial is available for those wanting to try out the 2 DVD Unlimited Xtra package, which offers you unlimited online rents for the month, with two discs out at a time.

Xtra customers can also take advantage of Blockbuster's new offline rental service, which allows you to rent two flicks in Blockbuster stores each month. The package costs £15.99 at full price.

If you don't have a Blockbuster store near-by, you can also get the month long free trial on the 2 DVD Unlimited plan, which costs just £12.71 a month.
