Blockbuster Beat Swine Flu

NEVER one to pass up jumping on a passing bandwagon Blockbuster have come up with a list of top 10 DVDs for those in quarantine with swine flu.

Steering away from the more obvious choices (although we haven't, see below) Blockbuster suggest new releases including Sci-fi flick 'Knowing', comic-book adaptation 'Watchmen' and romantic comedy 'New in Town'.

Not sure we'd pick up 'Knowing' - in which Cage battles to save the world from various disasters - to calm down a swine flu paranoid patient but there you go.

Here's a few more suggestions in a similar vein: 'Babe: Pig in the City' and 'My brother the Pig' for obvious reasons and 'Twelve Monkeys', in which a deadly virus sends mankind underground.

Wet summer could be good news for DVD rentals

THE Met Office has promised us a "barbecue summer" which must mean that it won't pay to be too far from the house because alongside heat waves of more than 30C (86F) they're predicting rain.

Provisional figures released this week show that although for the first half of July, Britain was warmer than average, 1C above normal, rainfall was 60% above the norm.

If you know someone who could use some entertainment for the kids in the wet weather check out our guide to DVD rental gift subscriptions.

The 24 hour Box set

24 was voted the most addictive TV programme this week in a Lovefilm poll of over 3000 users.

"Although crime doesn't pay, as our list reveals, it most certainly pulls in the viewers, and shows like 24 have clearly found the right mix of suspense, drama and action to keep us coming back for more," Darren Bignell from Lovefilm said.

The TV thriller beat off Lost and Friends to the top spot with 19% of the vote.

Also in the top ten were CSI, Prison Break, The Sopranos and Sex And The City. Doctor Who was the only UK show to make the list.

World Vision on Films

LOVEFILM will start supporting the charity WorldVision in the next few months.

With the headline 'The Greatest Story Ever Told...' it outlines the impact of sponsorship on people in developing countries.

The campaign is being supported by an online trailer using an insert similar to those employed in film promotion which tells the story of a sponsored child and gives details of how visitors can get involved.
