AFTER an exciting Oscar week, we can reveal the best award-winners you'll want to be settling down with on your sofa. Prepare your speech in the mirror and read on!
8 Oscar winning films to add to your rental queue
Missed out on an Oscar again this year?
If you still haven't made it into Hollywood, then the next best thing (probably) is to rent the award-winning flicks for yourself.
First on the list is The Reader - Kate Winslet surprised us all by not blubbing her way through yet another acceptance speech.
Highly unsurprising, however, was Heath Ledger's posthumous award for Best Supporting Actor in The Dark Knight.
Slumdog Millionaire scooped most of the awards, including Best Picture, providing more pun-tastic headlines for the tabloids to use.
For a night in with the kids, Pixar's amazing animation Wall-E is a must, but it might have you sobbing like Ms. Winslet in parts.
Perhaps one for when the kids have gone to bed, the Japanese foreign film winner, Departures, is the bizarre but heart-warming tale of a cellist-come-undertaker. Definitely one to add to the list.
Also, don't miss the rather delicious Brad Pitt in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Sean Penn at his best in Milk and Woody Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona.
If you think the Oscars are all glitz and glam and vote-rigging, then check out the winners from the Independent Spirit Awards, including Mickey Rourke's epic come-back, The Wrestler, Frozen River, The Visitor, and the French flick that took the Palme D'or at Cannes, The Class.
Prices for LoveFilm unlimited DVD rental start from £9.78 a month for 1 DVD out at a time.
3D films re-launch and could even be set for your TV
Yes, you read that right. Panasonic announced plans this week to have 3D movies in your home by 2010.
While the idea of 3D cinema may conjure up hideous images of the 80's and those flimsy red and green paper glasses, Panasonic has assured us that we’ve come a long way since then.
Using Blu-ray technology, along with fancy LCD shutter glasses, the aim is to take 3D cinema out of the I-max screens and in through your very own telly.
The 3D trend has hit the cinema screens recently with My Bloody Valentine, and is to make a huge comeback, banishing all gimmicky stereotypes.
Forthcoming films leaping at us in the next few years include Monsters vs. Aliens, Toy Story 3 and yet another Shrek movie.
While the technology may have improved, it still means donning a pair of silly-looking spectacles, so 3D films are probably not recommended for a romantic night in. They bring a whole new meaning to the word 'gogglebox'.
And finally... if you want to win something this week...
It's full of perfectly preened American tweenagers, but to celebrate the release of Disney's High School Musical 3: Senior Year on DVD and Blu-ray, online DVD rental giants Blockbuster are giving away a 16GB iPod Touch.
To be in with a chance of winning, put on your dancing shoes and tap your way over to the Blockbuster website or e-mail competitions@blockbuster.com with the answer to the following question: What is the name of the High School featured in the film? Springfield Elementary, Heftily High, James Woods High or East High.
Best get a shimmy on, the closing date is 2nd March 2009.
