WHEN GamezGecko first scuttled across the ceiling onto the online games rental scene, we were unconvinced that yet another new-gen games rental site could make any sort of impact on the already overcrowded market.

Just 250 games

Gradually though, GamezGecko has toiled away in the background and built up a very reasonable reputation for stocking the latest releases for the latest games consoles.

Unfortunately with no older games on the list, GamezGecko's current tally of games titles stands at around just 250.

Where the GamezGecko games rental service does shine though is on their pay-as-you-go subscription model, where you won't be charged for any month you don't rent any games. This completely removes the 'gotta-use-the-service' pressure we've all felt with unlimited games rental packages, and if anything, this is probably the single thing that makes GamezGecko shine so brightly.

Easy to use

One of our other earlier criticisms of GamezGecko was their poorly designed site, but we obviously weren't the only ones complaining as the company has just relaunched a beautiful new incarnation of the original site, including what we hope will become a very active Forum.

Currently though, it is about as lively as a Sunday morning in Surrey.

Despite the spelling errors and occasional technical glitches the GamezGecko games rental site is easy to use, and we particularly like that the games manuals become available for download in your GamezGecko queue after the game has been dispatched. If only some of the other sites would do the same.

GamezGecko, it has to be said, does have a quick turnaround in titles but we found that turnaround on brand new releases was slightly slower.

To their credit, GamezGecko's customer support - via email only - is helpful and quick to solve problems. In some cases emails were responded to within minutes by the GamezGecko support team.

Rental prices on par

Prices for GamezGecko's games rental packages are on par with the rest of the market, but they do offer the chance to buy any rental game you've kept for more than 20 days for 15% off.

Games rental free trial

GamezGecko games rental also offer a try-before-you-buy free trial for their one-game-at-a-time GeckoTeaser package. Uniquely, GamezGecko will alert you 3 days before the end of the trial, which is fantastic for anyone who has forgotten to cancel a games rental free trial in time!

Once again we find ourselves wishing that all other games rental sites would do the same. Perhaps GamezGecko has found a niche for itself in the crowded games rental market: The UK's fairest games rental service!

Gamez Gecko get two-thumbs up for:
The GamezGecko pay-as-you-go subscription model, where you only pay for the months where you use the GamezGecko service. Plus all those little extras that make GamezGecko feel like they are on your side, rather than just wanting your games rental subscription fees! GamezGecko also takes seriously the age restrictions on games which are clearly displayed and, pleasingly for parents, parental controls can be selected during signup.
