Review of LidlMovies DVD Rental
NEW SERVICE: All the details here are correct. However, Lidl DVD rental is a very new service so this review doesn't include customer feedback yet.
FOLLOWING Tesco DVD rental, German discount supermarket Lidl has launched a cheap re-branded version of a large online DVD rental site.
In Tesco's case that larger site is Lovefilm, in Lidl's case it's OutNow.
The Pros
That means that Lidl DVD rental customers will be able to take advantage of OutNow's impressive DVD catalogue. At 65,000+ titles it rivals Lovefilm and Blu-ray fans will also be pleased to hear that there are also around 180 titles for them to choose from.
Lidl's DVD rental site is basic but easy to use, with quick picks and hot lists to help you add new titles to your rental queue.
Finally, Lidl have a long 30 day free trial - always a winner with us - and a range of simple, well-priced rental deals.
The Cons
In spite of these excellent features we'd urge caution to those thinking of signing up to Lidl DVD rental packages.
OutNow DVD rental have been amassing quite a reputation in the past few months for poor service and (more disturbingly) difficult cancellations. We can't tell whether it's just that they've become a victim of their own success - OutNow being rather close-mouthed on the subject - but the wave of negative reports shows little sign of stopping any time soon.
Since Lidl's service is powered-by OutNow it's unfortunately very likely that these problems will continue onto this new service.
Anyone looking to splash their toes into online DVD rental for the first time might be better off trialing a service with a higher reputation such as LoveFilm or Blockbuster.
LoveFilm also offer a 1 month free trial if you sign up through Choose, and Blockbuster are a superb choice for anyone who enjoys popping to the local Blockbuster to pick out a film for a Saturday night in as you can now get free in-store rentals on top of the unlimited - or limited - online rentals.
Lidl DVD rental get two-thumbs up for:
Lidl's cheap cheap prices make their own case for signing up for this online dvd rental service. They also get a pat on the back for their huge range of titles and simple-to-use site.
