Review of Tesco DVD Rental
TESCO - that high-street giant that gobbles up local retailers and spits them out into big skips full of factory farmed chickens past their sell-by date - has teamed up with DVD rental industry-leaders LoveFilm to offer a pretty unbeatable online DVD rental service.
And it is not just us who thinks so.
Tesco DVD Rental is consistently regarded as one of the best DVD rental services available, despite the fact that it is just a branded version of the Lovefilm service.
Prices better than Lovefilm
As a private label site, Tesco DVD rental is able to offer a large collection of film and game titles (thanks to their daddy, LoveFilm), very reasonable customer service and, amazingly, even better prices than their master, LoveFilm. In fact, with it's £3.88 limited online DVD rental package, Tesco DVD rental is one of the cheapest online DVD rental services in the UK.
Tesco - who've always had a monopoly over low-cost everything - has introduced a small range of Tesco Value DVD rental packages. The Value range is a lot lower in price, with limitations on the number of rentals you can take out per month and, most significantly, sends out DVDs via second class post (with return envelopes also pre-stamped for second class).
Try Tesco DVD Rental for free
Even with the some of the cheapest DVD rental prices, Tesco DVD rental doesn't stop there; they also offer a free 21-day trial of the Tesco DVD rental service. Notes that you'll only get a 21-day free trial when you click through using the sign up link above; through the Tesco site it's only 14 days.
The trial applies to all packages, although the Tesco Value rental packages - which cap your rentals at a certain number per month - offer the free trial on a per-disc basis, rather than a time frame) and you can even earn your Tesco Club Card points each month you continue your DVD rental subscription!
Sadly, if you have already used a free trial from Lovefilm - or any of its affiliate sites such as easyCinema, WHSmith Movies Direct or SofaCinema - then you won't be eligible for a free trial from Tesco DVD rental.
Highly recommended
We usually advise against going with a 'powered-by Lovefilm' rental service as it almost always makes more sense to go with the parent company driving the rig instead but not in this case.
With its lower prices and the Tesco Club Card rewards, Tesco DVD Rental is a brilliant and highly recommended option for unlimited DVD rentals.
Please note
Tesco DVD rental is a private label site. This means that although the site is branded as 'Tesco', the service you are buying is powered by LoveFilm.
Tesco DVD Rental get two-thumbs up for:
One of the cheapest DVD rental services in the UK. That's Tesco for you!.

Customer Reviews
Remember, the customer reviews below are subjective (and are not the opinions of ChooseDVDRental.co.uk).
woodsie from Hythe writes... 28/11/2008 "As a fan of classic films from the 40's and 50's I find Tesco DVD excellent -and very good value for money. Have used the service for about six months to date and on the one occasion that I received a damaged disc, I was compensated with 3 free films from my list. Turnround times using 2nd class post can be a bit slow so it's a good idea not to hold on to the films for too long if you want to get the best value from this service."
A Noid from Nottingham writes... 21/10/2008 "The service is good and turnaround OK, but you never see a new release within 3 months of intial release and for some bizarre reason, each time they update their site, you cannot access tescodvdrental.com for about 3 weeks. I have been a customer for a year and this happens about every quarter - VERY annoying as you cannot add titles and have no idea what you are due to receive. Customer service is POOR if you have a problem you get through to an OVERSEAS! link with a flow chart of generic answers that don't help at all!"
Alan Slade from Stoke on Trent writes... 14/06/2008 "All the DVD's I have had were second class post returns and I found the turn around time too long."
Ian Ainsley from Bury St Edmunds writes... 18/01/2008 "Turn round 1st class post is about 4 days from you putting the old one in a post box. Value for money and beyond! Availability on xbox 360 games seems to be a bit limited. Can't comment on customer service as i've not had to contact them."
